Leica minilux and the infamous E02 failure
If you are one of the unfortunate possessor of a Leica Minilux that have the infamous error E02 and are thinking what to do with the brick, one of the things you can do is convert the lens 40 2.4 to a M mount. This is if you have ¥59.000 (more than 600 uss) plus shipping. There are an enterprise in Japan that make this mix and others. Alan Chin gave me this links http://www.camerapedia.org/wiki/MS_Optical_R&D and http://www.japanexposures.com/services/#lens
I was searching in the web and some people assure that the problem is on a cable in form of tape that moves every time that the lens go out a in. I am waiting some tips because apparently some people have tried to fix themselves. When i have news i will post. For me, put my hands in disamble the minilux present no riks since i have the camera that don’t works and don’t have the money to make it fix for Leica, that is no guarantee of another E02 in the future. Mi camera goes for the third.

Dear all,
There is a shop can fix the E02 problem. The cost is 120USD to replace the cable. They offer 12months guarantee for the fixing. It seems make sense to send it to Taiwan for fixing this problem.
Best regards
Stanley Chuang
can you provide the details of this company?
Well, I have a recomendation. At less you are very good technician don´t desamble the camera like i did. I have all parts appart for a long time without find a solution of the problem. I take it easy because i see that the lense have some fungus in the interior. Still i can´t put all the pieces in the garbage, maybe someday i will do an experiment with the lens.
Peixesloucos, did you had a reply from Chuang? if you have some data please share it here. A lot of people check this old post everytime. All the best.
Hello,
I havent heard and forgot about this post. My minilux served me since 2008 with almost 40 rolls of film and now has the E02 failure.
Do not know what to do with it.
I see the website camerarepair.com with 120USD rate. Also Schmidt in Hong Kong used to make repairs. I will check these possibilities.
Any update on your status?
I gave my old minilux to an old repair man as spare parts. A friend give me as a gift a Contax T2 that need repair too but in this case I can found some place here in Buenos Aires to fix the problem. Now I am using the T2 but started to fail when I use the flash. I have not more update that this comment I did. The problem with the Minilux is a design fail. You need to take in account that if you pay for the repair after some time you can will have the same error, this happened to me three times
Thanks for the information. Sorry to hear that. I do not think I will spend a lot for repair. I will take it to my repairman (old one) and ask if he can manage to do a repair. He served my Lubitel but never any electronic camera…
Do you think minilux has any value in selling as a spare parts?
I don’t know. I don’t trust anymore in electronic Leicas. Only manual cameras.
I was actually thinking of getting a Leica Minilux, but everybody discouraged me from risking to get a faulty one. They all recommended a Ricoh of the GR type. What do you think?
I think would be better stay apart of the minilux. Maybe a Contax T3 or T2 would be a better choose. I heard only good things from Ricoh but with this cameras you have a more wide angle lenses.
I love the fact that the Ricoh is very compact and discreet. I love that you can set the ISO and push / pull your film. I love that the images are sharp without having such blown highlights (typical of come compacts)… What do you think?
As I said before, all depends the lens you like to use, 28 or 35. I have no experience with Ricoh cameras. Here is a link. Good luck
